Consensus-Building Workshop on Energy Reform Concept

Mongolia’s energy sector is overdue for reform. As a starting point, the country’s Ministry of Energy and Abt organized a consensus building workshop on conceptualizing a vision for energy reform as part of the USAID-funded Mongolia Energy Governance (MEG) activity.

Mary Louise Vitelli, Esq., an institutional advisor for MEG, led the discussion, sharing examples of both successful and unsuccessful energy reforms from other countries. Her emphasis on clearly defining the goals, scope, and timeline for Mongolia’s reform was well received by Mongolian stakeholders. The workshop saw strong participation from Mongolia’s National Energy Reform Committee and the Ministry of Energy with women comprising over 30% of attendees.
